This tram was one of the first batch of trams imported by the Municipal Tramways Trust when it set up Adelaide's electric street tram network in 1908. Two decades later they operated on the quieter routes such as Croydon and Port Adelaide as larger trams became available; they were gradually placed into storage in the 1930s. However, during and after the Second World War on account of petrol rationing and to conserve manpower 58 cars were permanently joined in pairs.
