描述Amazon-river-NASA.jpg	Afrikaans: STS078-751-094 Oorstroomde Amasonerivieroewers in westelike Pará-provinsie, Brasilië in Junie 1996. Die ligging is sowat halfpad tussen Manaus en die Amasonerivierdelta. Hierdie beeld toon oorstroomde oewers van 'n klein segment van die Amasonerivier, insluitend die oerwouddorpies Oriximiná en Óbidos. Songlans op die modderige rivierwater fasiliteer die onderskeiding van land en water. Deur hierdie beeld met 'n gedetailleerde gebiedskaart te vergelyk, word dit duidelik dat die Amazonerivier sy oewers in die laagliggende dele aanliggend aan die vloedvlakte van die hoofkanaal oorstroom, en groot dele suid van die hoofkanaal staan ook onder (skoon) water. The sun’s reflection off of the muddy looking river water, called sun glint or sunglitter, helps to identify land-water boundaries in this section of the Amazon River which is roughly midway between Manaus and the Amazon River Delta. By comparing this image to a detailed map of the area it is obvious that the river is flooding in the low lying areas that are adjacent to the floodplain of the main channel of the river. Large areas south of the main channel of the Amazon River are [also] covered by [(unsilted)] standing water. Patches of cleared land can be identified within the densely vegetated terrain along the [northern] side of the Amazon River. The main channel of the Rio Trombetas can be traced southeastward [direction of flow] from the [left] edge of the picture until the river merges with the Amazon just west of the small jungle town of Óbidos.
