伊恩·魯殊於對陣荷蘭的世界盃外圍賽的比賽前

伊恩·魯殊是前威爾斯職業足球員，在1980年至1996年間為威爾斯足球代表隊共上陣73次，並射入28球[1]。

魯殊於1980年5月21日首次為威爾斯上陣，球隊於1980年英國本土四角錦標賽（英语：1979–80 British Home Championship）以1–0敗予蘇格蘭[2][3]。1982年5月27日，魯殊於對陣北愛爾蘭的英國本土四角錦標賽（英语：1981–82 British Home Championship）比賽中射入個人首個國家隊入球，協助球隊以3–0於主場擊敗對手[4]。

1991年，魯殊於對陣德國的歐國盃外圍賽比賽入球，協助球隊以1–0擊敗當時的世界盃冠軍[5][6][7]。

1992年9月9日，在對陣法羅群島的世界盃外圍賽時，魯殊上演生涯唯一一次帽子戲法，協助球隊以6–0勝出。這場比賽後，魯殊以23個入球追平杜利華·福特（英语：Trevor Ford）和伊沃尔·奥尔彻奇（英语：Ivor Allchurch）的國家隊入球紀錄[8][9]。
