San Alfonso del Mar is a private resort in Algarrobo, Chile, about 100 km（62 mi） west of the capital Santiago.[1] The resort is recognised as having the world's largest swimming pool.[1][2]

The pool is 1.013公里（0.629英里） long,[2] covering 8 ha（20 acre）,[2] containing some 250,000,000公升（55,000,000英制加侖；66,000,000美制加侖）[3] of seawater, with a maximum depth of 35米（115英尺）.[3][4] The water is pumped, filtered, and treated from the Pacific Ocean.

Development

The pool was developed by Fernando Fischmann; his Chilean company Crystal Lagoons built the pool, which opened in December 2006. While early estimates put the total cost of construction at about US$3.5 million for the filtration system alone,[5][6] more recent estimates are in the area of US$1.5 billion to US$2 billion total for construction and almost US$4 million in annual maintenance.[7][8][3]
