2016年4月，詹姆斯·卡梅隆宣布将拍摄第四部《阿凡达》续集，原定将于2024年12月20日上映，后因受Covid-19疫情影响，而延迟至2026年12月28日上映。2023年6月，宣布再延迟至2029年12月21日上映^[3]。

原定将于2025年12月19日上映^[25]，后因受Covid-19疫情影响，而延迟至2028年12月22日上映。2023年6月，宣布再延迟至2031年12月19日上映^[3]。

发行

《阿凡达3》计划于2021年12月17日在美国上映^[26]。2019年5月7日，随着福克斯并入华特迪士尼旗下，迪士尼宣布电影延期至2023年12月22日上映^[27]。2020年7月，因受2019冠状病毒病疫情影响，再次推迟至2024年12月20日^[28]。2023年6月，宣布再推迟至2025年12月19日上映^[3]。
