2020年7月，安納布爾納影業宣布收購當時仍未出版、蕾切爾·約德爾（英語：Rachel Yoder）撰寫的小說《夜母（英語：Nightbitch）》的電影版權，由艾美·亞當斯擔任主演及製片人[5]。亞當斯名下的Bond Group Entertainment製片公司派出史黛西·奧尼爾（Stacy O'Neil），與梅根·艾利森、蘇·內格爾（英語：Sue Naegle）和薩米·謝爾（Sammy Scher）共同擔任製片人，其中約德爾擔任執行製片人[6]。《你能原諒我嗎？》導演瑪麗艾·海勒對約德爾的小說很感興趣，在2019冠狀病毒病疫情期間與亞當斯一起暗地裡開發電影[7]。

前期製作
