2014年英聯邦運動會開幕典禮
英國當地時間2014年7月23日23:40，第20屆英聯邦運動會開幕典禮在蘇格蘭格拉斯哥凱爾特人公園球場舉行[1]。71名運動員手持國家和地區旗幟，帶領所屬國家代表團遊行到體育場。英女王伊麗莎白二世宣布運動會正式開幕，並稱英聯邦有「共同理想和抱負」和團結各成員的紐帶[2]。
演出動用約2000名演員，包括卡倫·鄧巴、約翰·巴羅曼、羅德·斯圖爾特、蘇珊·波伊爾、巴古拉·貝內德蒂、朱莉·弗麗絲，還有來自國際空間站的賀電。倒計時拉開了典禮的大幕，隨後蘇格蘭演員伊萬·麥克格雷格的視頻詮釋了賽事與聯合國兒童基金會的合作夥伴關係[3]。基金會為了拯救和改變孩子們的生活，而與賽會達成獨特的合作夥伴關係，旨在「利用體育給予每一位蘇格蘭兒童的力量，造福所有英聯邦國家和地區的兒童[4]」。
BBC一台全程轉播開幕禮[5][6] ，全世界預計有10億電視觀眾[7]，有900萬英國觀眾收看典禮[8]。
隨後，女王到場，紅箭飛行表演隊致敬。會場出現由體育科技提供[9]的歐洲最大LED屏幕[10]。蘇格蘭首席大臣亞歷克斯·薩爾蒙德歡迎到場觀眾和參賽者，並帶領大家為馬來西亞航空17號班機空難遇難者默哀。女王接力棒最後一棒克里斯·霍伊，將接力棒交給英聯邦運動會組委會主席伊姆蘭王子殿下。王子在女王的注視下，費了很久，才打開了藏在接力棒里的傳遞消息[11][7]。
