海马的组成(hippocampal formation)为大脑内侧颞叶的构造。有关该构造所包含的范围,学界并没有共识。有些学者认为海马结构包含齿状回海马体岬下脚英语subiculum[1]。有些则认为前岬下脚(presubiculum)、偏岬下脚英语parasubiculum内嗅皮层皆包含在内[2]。海马结构被认为对于人类的记忆、空间概念,和专注力上扮演重要的角色。而海马回的传输途径在所有动物之间几乎一样[3]
