法尔茅斯焚城

法尔茅斯焚城（英语：Burning of Falmouth）是美国独立战争波士顿之围期间的一次英军报复行动，发生于1775年10月18日马萨诸塞州法尔茅斯（今缅因州波特兰）。

《强制法案》公布后，美州殖民地与英国的关系急转即下，到列星顿和康科德战役后更陷入战争。由于波士顿在陆路被民兵包围，殖民政府必须到其他海港殖民地补给。然而这些海港时有抗拒甚至攻击英军舰只，令皇家英国海军决意报复。1775年7月波士顿海军中将塞缪尔·格雷夫斯（Samuel Graves）下令派舰到沿海城市报复，行动在10月由亨利·莫沃特（Henry Mowat）上校指挥。

莫沃特带着5艘军舰出发，最后选择先到法尔茅斯。法尔茅斯在5月曾爆发保皇党与反叛者的冲突，而莫沃特期间一度被民兵俘虏。10月16日莫沃特抵达法尔茅斯，要求全镇市民向英皇宣誓效忠，否则开炮予以惩罚。法尔茅斯市民最终选择逃离，而莫沃特则在18日开火，使全市大面积焚毁。

法尔茅斯焚城事件，促使第二次大陆会议设立大陆海军应付。首两艘军舰在10月30日获议会批准服役。至于英国政府本身并不认可焚城的报复方法，相近事件日后鲜有重复，而莫沃特也多次不获晋升。
